Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a former journalist who has written five books, three of them novels.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Squeeze Plays, which was inspired in part by the great New York novel Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I generally work in the mornings, but will enter something on a moment’s notice if inspired.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to properly cite, but here are a few: Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Aldous Huxley, John Updike, Alfred Conan Doyle, Martin Cruz Smith, Ross McDonald.
What are you working on now?
A first-person family drama that may evolve into a thriller, but it’s too early in the process to be sure.

Interviews and podcasts.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read as much as you can and learn from what you read, what you like and how to craft images and sentences that inspire and intrigue readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Perseverance is the most important discipline for a writer, and rewriting and reshaping is critical to a better product.
